The city of Yazd is located in central Iran. It is located about 250 kilometres southeast of Isfahan. Due to its remote location, between the two desserts of Dasht-e Kavir to the north and Dasht-e Lut to the east, the city escaped major ravages during the last centuries.

In1272 Marco Polo visited the town remarking: ‘It is a good and noble city, and has a great amount of trade. They weave their quantities of a certain silk tissue known as Yasdi, which merchants carry into many quarters to dispose of. When you leave this city to travel further, you ride for seven days over great plains, finding harbour to receive you at three places only.’
Yazd’s architecture, significant to its locations and religion, features a broad network of aqueducts, wind towers that help climate rooms and Zoroastrian Tower of Silence (used to put people to rest).
