Field Diary, 7th of July 2017
Today I went to explore Jerusalem during the night. It is the day of Shabbat. The city is empty. No cars, no business, no people. Compared to other days of the week the city is like a floating feather, calm and weightless. Wandering through the old city during this time means walking the ancient paths of Jerusalem nearly all alone. Captured by pale limestone and dolomite, within gates and bent metal alloys of doors and windows I can only hear my own footsteps.

Suddenly a group of men passes me. They wear black trousers, hats, jackets, and white shirts. It is a group of Orthodox Jews. I guess they return from their Shabbat festivities. They speak a mix of English and Hebrew. I wonder what they would say about my appearance wearing a straw hat, linen shirt, beige trousers and a camera that intentionally looks old but is new.
