Before the rise of Islam in the late first millennium AD, Zoroastrianism served as a state religion in ancient Persia. Thus Zoroastrianism is one of the world’s oldest religions. Its foundation is built on a cosmogonic dualism and eschatological monotheism that focuses on the four elements of the earth: fire, water, earth and air. Today only one per cent of the Iranian population practices Zoroastrianism.

The Ecolodge Nartitee, where we are staying right now, is certainly a special place. Run by a Zoroastrian Family the building works like an Austrian square courtyard. At the entrance are the communal areas: kitchen, living room and washing facilities. On all other sides are rooms for sleeping and there is also a dining room. In the centre, there is a beautiful garden with palm granddad trees and a turtle a little older than my age.
