The Alamut geographic region (Persian: الموت; Alamūt) is a region in Iran including western and eastern parts in the western edge of the Alborz range, between the dry and barren plain of Qazvin in the south and the forested slopes of the Mazandaran province in the north. Till the 12th century, the Almut valley was a stronghold of the Assassins until crushed by the Mongol Empire.

Today lake ‘Ovan’, a weekend destination for barbecue hungry Iranians, ḡalyān smoking flavour junkies and swan paddling lovebirds is a popular spot for leisure and relaxation.
